Transforming IT Expertise with Cisco's New AI Certifications

In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a cornerstone of technological advancements, Cisco is taking significant strides in enhancing the skill sets of IT professionals. The company recently announced the introduction of new and updated certifications that aim to equip a diverse range of professionals with essential AI knowledge. As businesses increasingly adopt AI technologies, understanding the foundation and infrastructure surrounding AI is vital. This is where Cisco's new initiatives come into play, reinforcing its commitment to empower IT professionals with the necessary tools to thrive in the AI-driven landscape.

The cornerstone of this initiative is the launch of the "Essentials" course, part of Cisco's Rev Up to Recert program. Running from February 7 to March 24, the course is specifically designed for professionals such as Data Center (DC) network engineers, DC system engineers, IT infrastructure architects, and IT operations engineers. These professionals are crucial in building the AI infrastructure needed to support advanced AI applications. The curriculum covers the basics of AI alongside the infrastructure requirements essential for implementing AI technologies.

Moreover, this foundational course sets the stage for further advancements in AI training, with a promise of more advanced materials being unveiled ahead of Cisco Live U.S. in June 2025. This layered approach not only enhances initial learning but also opens pathways to deeper studies of AI applications and their implications in various IT domains.

Integrating AI into Existing Certifications

In line with the growing importance of AI skills, Cisco is integrating AI-related competencies into its existing certification frameworks. Notably, the updated Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification will now incorporate both generative AI and predictive AI elements. This development reflects the increasing necessity for networking professionals to understand how AI can enhance network efficiency and security.

Additionally, another prominent certification, the Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE), has also been revised. The updated CCDE now features a new elective focused on AI infrastructure, which aims to teach participants how to design scalable AI solutions. Participants will gain insights into the considerations for secure data handling in AI-integrated environments, which is critical for maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information.

Specialist Badges and New Course Offerings

Cisco is not only enhancing existing certifications but is also introducing new specialist badges for CCDE-certified experts. These new badges are a reflection of the professionals' focus on AI infrastructure elective, showcasing their commitment to specialized education in a rapidly evolving field. This certification structure aims to highlight Cisco's dedication to continuous learning and skill validation in the AI domain.

Furthermore, the company is renaming its Data Center Design certification to “Designing Cisco Data Center Infrastructure for Traditional and AI Workloads.” This new name emphasizes the integration of AI within traditional workloads, addressing both current and future demands in data center design. The incorporation of an AI and AI Infrastructure domain signals Cisco's acknowledgment of the criticality of these skills in today’s tech landscape.

Beyond design, Cisco is embedding AI and machine learning (ML) skills into its cybersecurity and multi-cloud specialist certifications. The integration of AI/ML into these domains serves to enhance the abilities of IT professionals, preparing them to effectively combat new threats and manage complex multi-cloud environments.
